Sassorosso, (literally “Red stone”) is a magical little mountain village situated in an area rich with caves that were used in stone-age times. The earliest written record of the village is a papal bull of 1168 and the village itself seems to have come straight out of the middle ages.

In summer there is a cafè/restaurant in the village (Bottega del Orso). There is a great pizzeria about 300m from the village and a restaurant about 500m away. Both are open all year. 7km away there are some ski slopes and hotel/restaurant (Il Casone).
